The meaning of life

Since the dawn of time, the ultimate question has been asked in a number of ways. Why do we exist? What is the meaning of life? Does God exist? What is the origin of the universe? How does the world exist, and what is its origin or source of creation? Why is there something rather than nothing?

This site offers you the possibility to discuss this fundamental metaphysical question with others. It also allows you to share your opinion and react to other people's points of view. What do you believe in? What do you think is the meaning of life?

Whether you are a believer, an atheist, an agnostic, or a clever mix of all three, you are welcome! Your point of view can be serious, absurd, even bordering on completely nuts. However, the following two things are essential to this dialogue: respect and an open mind.

Respect: you may defend your opinion and try to prove the falsity of another, but it is forbidden to attack its author directly. Fascism and generalisations are strictly verboten!

An open mind: if you can't handle having your convictions being put into question, this might not be the place for you. For this same reason, a sense of humour is highly recommended! If your beliefs forbid their being made fun of, you might not want to participate in this dialogue.

You don't have to register in order to be able to comment or to start a new thread. We do, however, highly recommend that you register. By doing this, you can easily look up everything you've posted and, if you like, modify it. You'll also be able to track new threads and new comments.

The answer to the meaning of life is that we are all in a trap.
the definition of trap in the dictionary is 1-Prevent (someone) from escaping from a place.
2- to wake up or find yourself somewhere with no exit.
3-A device or enclosure designed to catch and retain animals,by allowing entry but not exit
4-An unpleasant situation from which there is no escape.
The evidence was right before our eyes we just thought it was something greater than it really is.
But this answer[we are in a trap] has now brought us to bigger questions who created the trap and why?
Can we be rescued? can we find our own way out?

To suggest this is a trapsuggests there is somthing else out there, also implies that this other place is by comparison better then where we are, I have no choice but disagree, I feel that Life is what you make it, nothing more nothing less.

life is what you make it[ i live life to the fullest] the part that i dont like is the death part. planet earth is death row for everyone,we might not be in prison but we are all dead men walking. that is why i call it a trap because there is no way out. the death sentance will be delivered to everyone. surely there is an escape thought in you even though it might not be a realistic thought.its built in to the human being to survive yet we live in a trap

We're trapped in so many ways - by our relationships with people, by our mechanical and chemical makeup, by our birth and our death, etc. We were born into an empty cage. But we're here and we can't get out and it's a fairly big cage, so let's party?

you are correct. I also believe it is a sort of trap. but there is a path I suppose.
I have seen in Buddhism there is a path to go out of the trap. In Buddhism, it is also shown same like a trap (not direct words, but tally with your idea). So, the path is shown by Lord Buddha and it is our duty to follow and seek.
